SHINE like Cindy

“Happy People Are More Attractive”, stated a quote once taped on Stacy Soble’s refrigerator.  The notion was to constantly remind Stacy that beauty and grace run deeper than outward appearances. And it was this very quote that played in her mind as she looked for a seat during a session of Serious Business 2013 held in New Orleans. Now, as Editor-in-Chief of Salon Today, Soble was helping host the event and very much looking forward to Shawn Achor’s presentation on The Happiness Advantage.

Equally enthused about hearing Achor speak and already in her seat was SoulSalt client Cindy Feldman of Progressions Salon, Spa, and Store in Rockville, Maryland.  Cindy was attending as one of Salon Today’s Top 200 honorees.

As fate would have it, Stacey Soble picked her seat right next to Cindy Feldman and two of this planet’s bright spots met.  They struck up a conversation, exchanged business cards and took notes as Shawn provided five easy, daily steps to experiencing more happiness:

  • Upon waking each morning, jot down three things you are grateful for and pick three new items each day.
  • For two minutes each day, open a blank word document and write one meaningful experience you had that day. Include every detail.
  • Choose to do 15 minutes of a fun activity each day.
  • For two minutes simply watch your breath go in and out.
  • Choose someone in your life and send them praise by card or e-mail.

Later that evening when the session was over Soble noted that she was “extremely touched” by a sincere e-mail received from Cindy thanking her for making the event possible.

It was no surprise to me that Cindy immediately started practicing the daily steps for experiencing happiness on the very day she learned about them. It is also no surprise that she graciously and sincerely reached out and thanked Soble for her part in creating the event.

Cindy Feldman has taught me many things during my seven-year association with her. One of the high-lights being: Live your life with a low word to action ratio. Meaning – make sure that what you say is, what you do.

Thank you Cindy for your example and thank you for making my life brighter. You are ever out there shining like a diamond.

Salon Coach Certification – First in the World!

SoulSalt Inc. is proud to announce our part in giving birth to the first Salon Coach Certification program recognized by the International Coach Federation. That is right! This is the first I.C.F. accredited program in the world.

We have been working with salons since 1998. Most recently our work has been to meld coaching programs within compatible salon cultures. Our results  have been phenomenal as you can see:

We are proud to be a part of a profession that can deliver customized programs which produce real outcomes in real time for creative, busy and visionary salon leaders.

More about Coaching

Coaching is not new, it is not a fad. In fact coaching sprouted up from the broad range of philosophies and practices that date as far back as Aristotle, Socrates and Buddha.

The taxonomy of coaching blends an array of ancient wisdom and practices with modern science and advancement in the arts of communication and education.

The coaching industry has grown enormously over the past ten years. The evolving dynamics of coaching are proving it to be a ubiquous as training.

If you are interested in being a salon coach, please reach out –

If you are interested in crafting a coaching culture within your spa, salon, school, business, etc. we have a proven track record and would love to discover what we can do in partnership with you.
An independent R.O.I. study showed that the Paul Mitchell The School system accrued a 42% increase in the number of trainings that were booked, a 100% retention factor affording the company a savings of $57,381.00 during the 2006 to 2007- the year spent with Lyn Christian coaching the management staff.

First we’d like to thank Meche’ Ortega for her expertise and experience in building the salon certification track that currently exists at U.C.U. mentioned above.

Next, we’d love to congratulate Progressions Salon, Spa and Store in Rockville, Maryland. We have been working with Cindy Feldman and team for several years and want to acknowledge how well they have implemented a coaching culture using our curriculum as well as our coaching. Kudos for being in the Salon Today top 200 salons!

Also, if you don’t think that coaching is a huge part of top salon’s business success, think again. While we had our noses to the coaching grindstone, Salon Today did a feature article. We’ll be sure to let them know they missed a huge hat tip our way. However, take a look at what is happening out here. We’ll pit our R.O.I. (return on investment) against any coach engagement out there.

Get Coached Before You Coach

Last week in Maryland we completed a custom coach training session for the staff at Progressions Salon, Spa, and Store. This is the second of its kind for Cindy Feldman and team. This time our focus was to transfer coaching skills to even more members of her highly skilled staff.

Two things stood out as I took notes and experienced the training as one of the co-facilitators:

  • Individuals who have spent time in the culture being coached have a built in advantage when learning to be a coach. By sitting on the receiving end you better understand the dynamics of the process than someone who has not experienced being coached themselves. Thereby, you can pick up the skill of coaching quicker.
  • The handful of individuals who were trained two years ago and who have been coaching are truly shining. They were strong and competent as I watched them run through exercises and break-out peer coaching sessions. This confirmed to me that nothing can replace time spent in the trenches coaching with a good mentor by your side.

Well done Progessions! If you want to start a coaching culture in your work space, follow their example. Get coached before you become a coach.

Here’s what Cindy Feldman, owner of Progressions had to say about the training.

The Rock Star of Rockville

I recently returned from a productive visit to the D.C. area where I met with a client and her  team. Our job was to transport their vision and goals for 2012 from thoughts in heads to Gantt charts and calendars.

I was moved by the endurance this team expressed as we took a Sunday to pound out the project plans.  I took note of the loyalty this team holds for their leader.

Over the past two years it has become clear that my client’s passion and ideals for where the business can grow were running a different direction than her business partner’s ideals. My heart swelled with emotion to I watch her align with her core value of compassion and love as she and her former business partner parted ways and sent each other off to their respective new adventures.

She, and I have both learned that sometimes what looks like a big ending is simply a stork delivering exactly what everyone needs  in order to experience the power of a rebirth.

The woman I speak of is truly one of the most gifted promoters and savvy entrepreneurs I’ve had the privilege of working with. She has created the fixings for a new life that is about to unleash itself.

And it is the deeper soul level activity she has recently submitted to that makes this lady a Rock Star in my book and that makes her future so promising.

She is a woman of great integrity and efficacy:

She has endured the grueling process of loving freedom and living for freedom – relentlessly investing effort into clearing the path for her future business and those who it will employ.

She believes in compassion and grace. So she lives compassionately gossip-free, grateful, and constantly extending  appropriate amounts of love outwardly while holding onto wise boundaries.

She is dedicated to beauty and she lives expressing beauty in everything she touches and acknowledging beauty when she experiences it.

Many people are edified each month by the bright spot she creates as she moves among us. I am one of them. As I have coached her, she has become my teacher. One of the greatest lessons she has shared is the concept of the word to action ratio.

I ♥ you Cindy Feldman. I ♥ you because you stand on the bedrock of your own conviction and step into the direction you know is right for you. And you do so without entertaining the notion that those who have chosen not to leap with you are wrong. Rock on!
